Volunteering for the 13th Competition
The 13th USA International Harp Competition needs you! No matter how much time or skill you have, you can help us deliver an event that is fulfilling and fun for everyone.
There are three basic categories of volunteer activities:
General - these tasks include jobs like door monitor, registration desk, merchandise table, reception set up/tear down - basic hands-on staffing needs. Everyone is welcome to sign up for general tasks. Jobs that require some physical effort (like transporting merchandise or walking between venues) will be noted.
Contestant Shuttle Driver - One of the unique and special things we do here in Bloomington is help our contestants get to and from campus so they can practice and compete. Drivers use their own vehicle and must provide a copy of their valid drivers license and current car insurance to volunteer to be a Contestant Shuttle Driver. USAIHC will compensate personal car business miles driven at the IRS business mileage rate ($0.70/mile).
Harp Logistics - only those who have harp moving experience may volunteer to move harps between practice rooms and performance spaces in the Simon Music Center building. There are over 30 instruments to manage and maintain.
The Program Coordinator and Administrative Coordinator will manage volunteer activities.
The competition will take place May 14 - 24, 2025, plus there are volunteer tasks in the week before that start date.
We will be using two free applications for volunteer scheduling - Lotsa Helping Hands and What’sApp.
Lotsa Helping Hands is a real-time announcement and calendaring app where all volunteer tasks (date/time/location) will be posted. You can review the calendar and select to volunteer for as many specific tasks as you wish. What’sApp will be used to communicate with contestants regarding transportation services.
We will have Zoom information sessions in early May to help you get familiar with these applications. And, we will be happy to meet one-on-one if you need a bit more help.
After you register as a volunteer, we will communicate with you directly to understand what you’d like to do.
